Rome, EDUR and the Art and Architecture of Facism in Italy

Lecture by Dr Sarah Pearson

This lecture is now on March 21st at 2pm

Italian fascist architecture reached its pinnacle in Benito Mussolini’s creation of EUR

(Esposizione Universale Roma) a new Roman suburb whose buildings were

intended to rival those of ancient Rome. The leading Italian rationalist architects

were employed to design this showpiece of urban design, and the construction was

decorated with mosaics and statuary extolling the fascist state.

This lecture examines the fascist architecture of EUR, Rome and Italy and considers the quality of the materials and techniques employed and the decorative elements of Fascist design such as murals, statuary and other artworks.
