Zoom Lecture: 16-Nov-20 at 11.00am. Ravillious, Pipers and English Romantic Modernism


Born in the years between the Wars, Romantic Modernism continues to inspire 21st century designers and painters like Mark Hearld and Emily Sutton. This lecture offers a vibrant alternative vision of Modernist art, from an English perspective.

SUZANNE FAGENCE COOPER

Studied History at Oxford University and Art History at the Courtauld Institute, and at Christie's Education. Was a Curator and Research Fellow at the V&A Museum for 12 years, and is now a Visiting Fellow at the University of York. Has lectured extensively for museums and on Cunard liners, and undertaken broadcasts and consultancies for the BBC and Channel Four. Historical Consultant to Ralph Fiennes for The Invisible Woman, a film about Charles Dickens, and the BBC drama, The Living and the Dead. Publications include Pre- Raphaelite Art in the Victoria and Albert Museum (2003), The Victorian Woman (2001), and Effie Gray, a biography of the Scottish wife of John Ruskin and John Everett Millais. A film based on her life, starring Emma Thompson, was released in 2014. Currently Research Curator at York Art Gallery, workingon an exhibition Turner, Ruskin and the Storm Cloud opening in Spring 2019.
